BOOTES by Steve Coe 13.1" f/5.6 unless noted NGC 5248 Bright, Large, elongated 2.5 X 1 in PA 135. Has a very bright middle and an almost stellar nucleus at 135X. Averted vision increases the size of galaxy quite a bit and also shows off some beautiful mottling in the outer arm regions. Cherry Rd. 6" f/6 7/10=S+T 22mm--easy to find 14mm--pretty bright, pretty small, elongated 1.8X1, much brighter middle, averted vision makes it double in size. NGC 5263 Faint, pretty small, much elongated 2.5 X 1 in PA 20 at 150X. Very little brighter in the middle with an 8th magnitude star 5' south. NGC 5312 Very faint, small, round, not much brighter middle, low surface brightness at 150X. NGC 5318 Faint, pretty small, elongated 1.8 X 1 in PA 0 at 150X. Much brighter middle with a stellar nucleus at 220X. This object is designated NGC 5318\9 so NGC 5219 must be very near NGC 5218, but I did not see two separate objects at any power. NGC 5321 Faint, small, round, bright middle with an almost stellar nucleus at 150X. NGC 5347 Pretty faint, pretty small, elongated 1.5 X 1 in PA 135 at 150X. NGC 5466 Pretty bright, large, little elongated 1.5 X 1 in PA 15, somewhat like a heart shape, pretty rich and compressed at 165X. 28 stars counted on a night I rated 7/10 for seeing. Even though this globular has a bright core, it is still a pretty low surface brightness object, kind of like Omega Centauri in a 2". Paired with NGC 5613 which is very faint, small, round and can only be seen with averted vision. NGC 5633 Pretty bright, pretty small, elongated 1.5 X 1 in PA 20 and has a bright middle at 100X. NGC 5641 Pretty faint, pretty small, elongated 2 X 1 in PA 165 and much brighter in the middle at 100X. NGC 5653 Pretty faint, pretty small, round, bright middle at 100X. NGC 5656 Pretty faint, pretty large, little elongated (1.2 X 1) in PA 60 and much brighter in the middle at 100X. There is a 13th mag star about one arc minute to the south. NGC 5660 Pretty bright, pretty large, little elongated (1.5 X 1) in PA 90 and very gradually brighter in the middle at 100X. NGC 5665 Pretty faint, pretty small, little elongated (1.5 X 1) in PA 135 and somewhat brighter in the middle at 135X. NGC 5669 Faint, large, little elongated 1.2 X 1 in PA 60, very little brighter in the middle at 100X. This low surface brightness galaxy has a somewhat brighter bar in the middle, averted vision helps with this object. NGC 5673 Pretty faint, pretty small, much elongated (3 X 1) in PA 135 and much brighter in the middle at 100X. Going to 165X will show off a stellar nucleus in moments of good seeing.
