ARIES by Steve Coe 13.1" f/5.6 unless noted NGC 680 Pretty bright, pretty large, round and much brighter in the middle at 165X. NGC 678 Pretty faint, pretty large, elongated 2X1 in PA 90 at 165X. Averted vision makes it grow. NGC 691 Pretty bright, pretty small, much brighter middle, little elongated 1.5X1 in PA 75. NGC 694 Very faint, pretty small, Elongated 2 X 1 in PA 0 degrees and not brighter in the middle at 135X. Averted vision helps, a low surface brightness object. UGC 1276 Faint, pretty small, little brighter middle, elongated 2X1 in PA 90. NGC 695 Faint, very small and round; it is just a tiny dot at 165X. NGC 697 Pretty bright, pretty large, elongated 3 X 1 in PA 110 degrees. This galaxy is much brighter in the middle at 165X and it displays very obvious mottling in the spiral arms. There is a tiny cluster of very faint stars at the eastern edge of this galaxy, a unique view at 100X. UGC 2082 Very faint, pretty large, elongated 3 X 1 in PA 135 degrees. This low surface brightness galaxy is tough at 100X, the middle is somewhat brighter than the outer portions, but it is still difficult. NGC 719 Very faint, pretty small, very little brighter middle, elongated 1.5X1 in PA 135 at 100X. NGC 722 Faint, pretty small, little elongated in PA 90 and not brighter in the middle at 135X. This galaxy is close to Beta ARI. NGC 770 Pretty faint, small, round and somewhat brighter in the middle at 165X. NGC 772 Bright, Large, little elongated in PA 135 degrees. The arms of this face-on spiral are very mottled. The core is much brighter than the arms at 165X and the very center has a stellar nucleus in moments of good seeing. Sentinel 8/10 S+T 11X80 not seen. 100X in 13"-- pretty bright, pretty large, gradually much brighter middle, elongated 1.5X1 in PA 135. Higher powers don't help, arms disappear. Averted vision makes it grow is length. Core is also elongated, same PA. NGC 776 very faint, pretty small, little brighter middle, round. Averted vision helps to pick out this quite difficult galaxy. NGC 794 Faint, very small, round, just a tiny fuzz spot at 100X. NGC 821 Pretty bright, small, somewhat elongated (1.5 X 1) in PA 30 degrees. There is a very bright middle at 165X. NGC 871 Pretty faint, pretty small and elongated 1.5 X 1 in PA 25 at 165X. NGC 876 Faint, small, not much at 165X. NGC 877 Pretty bright, pretty large, elongated 2 X 1 in PA 0 and a little brighter in the middle at 165X. NGC 972 Pretty bright, pretty small, much brighter in the middle, elongated 3 X 1 in PA 145 at 165X. This galaxy really grows with averted vision. NGC 976 Faint, small, little elongated 1.2 X 1 in PA 165 and little brighter in the middle at 135X. Tough to tell the PA of elongation with such a dim object. NGC 1012 Faint, pretty small, elongated 1.5 X 1 in PA 30, much brighter in the middle at 165X. There are several stars involved on the east side. NGC 1156 Pretty bright, pretty large, elongated 2 X 1 in PA 30 and somewhat mottled at 165X. Double Stars 1 ARI Notched at 100X with a clean split at 165X, it is white and light yellow. Gamma ARI Split at 100X, this fascinating pair is a set of perfectly matched blue-white stars. Very nice. Lambda ARI Split at 100X, white and light blue. 30 ARI Easy split at 100X, yellow and yellow matched pair. 33 ARI Easy split at 100X, white and blue. PI ARI This appears to me as a triple system in a straight line. The distant comes is about 30" from the primary, the fainter and closer companion is split at 165X and this pair is white and gray. Struve 46 Split at 165X, white and gray. Struve 394 Split at 100X, yellow and light blue. Red Stars V ARI Medium Orange in pretty sparse field.
